We believe that the rural poor in developing countries are quite capable of pulling themselves out of poverty. We use a financial model that allows artisans to earn significantly higher than fair trade wages for their handicraft product.
How do we do it?
Prosperity Wages Model
• ensure that our artisans earn at least 2.5 times fair trade for their handcrafted items.
• ensure that our artisans are paid directly in their home village – meaning that they never have to go searching for a market.
• ensure that our artisans never have to wait for the products to sell in the USA in order to get paid – they are paid at the time of basket collection.
Graduate from Poverty Model
¹ With their Prosperity Wages, our artisans invest in at least 3 businesses.
² These businesses grow and begin to produce income for our artisans.
³ In about 3 years time, our artisans “tip” from poverty to prosperity through these businesses. They graduate from our program and exit poverty.
Beyond Fair Trade
We provide entrepreneurial minded artisans with access to a global market
We pay our artisans directly, enabling them to earn sufficient wealth to start their own businesses
Our Prosperity Wages model creates a cycle of prosperity for our artisans and their communities
A global market + direct artisan payments + sufficient wealth = a sustainable end to poverty
Ten by Three
Ten by Three was inspired by the underlying formula that is responsible for the success of our Prosperity Wages Model. When we purchase ten products a month at Prosperity Wage from an artisan for 3 years, it creates a sustainable end to poverty.
